SPECIAL OLYMPICS STORY
Founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968, Special Olympics gives special needs children and adults with varying degrees of ability the opportunity to become physically fit and experience the joy, camaraderie, and fellowship that only sports can provide. Ventura County Special Olympics organization brings this opportunity to our local community. The Special Olympics athlete's oath is "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." It is sports in the truest sense. The goal is not to win, but to participate and for each athlete to discover his or her own best. All earn an award, a cheer and a sincere “well done!".
